How to Care for Venus Flytraps
A basic guide to care that is all you need to successfully grow Dionaea muscipula.
Sunlight Requirements
The Venus flytrap needs plenty of light—ideally, direct sunlight every day. Without it, it quickly weakens and loses both its color and the effectiveness of its traps.
Watering
Use only rainwater, distilled water, or RO water. Minerals in tap water can damage the roots over time.
Substrate
Only a nutrient-poor growing medium, most commonly a mixture of peat and perlite. Regular potting soil is not suitable.
Humidity
High humidity isn't necessary. Light, water and air circulation are more important.
Winter Dormancy
In winter, the plant enters a dormant phase. This rest period is essential for its long-term health and a strong start in the spring.
Flowering
A flower stalk can drain the plant of energy, so it is advisable to remove it from weaker plants.
